With filming for Marvel Studios' "grand jewel" The Avengers commencing in just four months, though most of the principal cast members are signed on, there are various unknown roles to be filled. And now according to RadarOnline, actress and singer Demi Lovato is supposedly up for a role.

"When Demi Lovato, [18] returns to rehab after Christmas she may even feel a sense of renewal that will strengthen her for the counseling and therapy sessions she will endure. But it looks like she's making a turn-around. RadarOnline.com has learned Demi is up for a role in the new Avengers movie that will start shooting April 1."

The actress became better known for her roles as Mitchie Torres in the Camp Rock movies, as Sonny Munroe in Sonny With a Chance and as the star of the 2009 movie Princess Protection Program, all Disney produced & distributed.

Evidently, there are no further details to this casting, therefore take it with a grain of salt. However, if it turns out to be true, I assume it's for a minor role. And seeing as this is only the most anticipated movie of 2012, no role is really minor. So who could you see Lavato portray, if the role is from the books?

The Avengers assembles Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, and Mark Ruffalo on May 4, 2012; plausibly against the alien races, Skrulls and the Kree.

ComingSoon.net has confirmed that the information published in the Albuquerque Journal was not officially released through Marvel Studios and can instead be attributed to a research error on the part of the newspaper.

While this does not preclude the film from featuring the Kree or the Skrull, there is no hard evidence to date to suggest their inclusion.

Not So Fast: Demi Lovato Will NOT Be in 'The Avengers'

Geeks and Whedonites (that's Joss Whedon fans, to the laymen) got all uppity today following a Radar Online report that Demi Lovato, the troubled and sometime racy Disney star, was going to be in Marvel's The Avengers, which Whedon will shoot in spring 2011.

Actually, what Radar said was that she "was up for a role," but that quickly went to "she's in it" pretty darn quickly.

Sources inside Lovato's camp as well as Marvel's, however, said there was no truth to the rumor, denying across the board Lovato’s involvement. Part of the problem in hiring the actress is that she’s currently in rehab “for emotional and physical issues.”

But that doesn’t mean Marvel isn’t on the hunt for another female actress to join the male-heavy cast. So far, Scarlett Johansson (as the Black Widow) is the only notable female in a roll call that includes Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor).

Sources say Marvel is looking for another actress to, um, (un)beef up the lineup, although in typical Marvel secretive fashion, the role is not being revealed. (Anyone want to take bets it’s the Wasp?)
