Eve, Kruger, Pike compete for Warner Bros. pic
With Henry Cavill set as the Man of Steel, Warner Bros. has set a short list of contenders for "Superman's" femme lead.
Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike are the three thesps being considered for the role, whose identity hasn't been disclosed -- but it's not Lois Lane.
Eve has the most modest resume, but has seen her profile grow in the last year after starring in Paramount's "She's Out of My League."
Pike has been on Hollywood's radar since her turn as a Bond girl in "Die Another Day" and has since had several supporting roles, including "An Education" and "Barney's Version."
Kruger has had significant leads in both "National Treasure" pics, "Troy" and "Inglourious Basterds" -- but this would mark one of her most high-profile roles.
Studio is also in the midst of a search for a "Superman" villain. Zack Snyder is directing from a script by David Goyer with Christopher Nolan producing. Studio is looking to start production this summer with a December 2012 release date.
All three thesps are repped by UTA. Eve is also repped by Untitled and Pike by Magnolia Entertainment.

http://www.latinoreview.com/news/exclus ... aled-12492Exclusive: Superman's Undisclosed Character Revealed
It's not a bird, it's not a plane, but it's a Superman scoop you want to read about.
Most recently the powers that be, aka the producers, of Zack Synder's take on Superman released to the trades the names of three actresses who are in contention to play a character who is "undisclosed" for the time being.
Auditioning are British actress Alice Eve, German actress Diane Kruger and British actress Rosamund Pike. The trades also stated that these three are not vying for the part of Lois Lane.
There are many are speculating that Lois Lane will not be in the film, but as a buddy of mine recently said, "Superman without Lois Lane is like having Batman without Alfred."
While bloggers and fans have been scratching their heads trying to figure out which character Synder has them coming out for, LatinoReview has been alerted by a most trusted reliable source that two things are going to occur.
1: Lois Lane WILL be in the film.
2: The character these lovely actresses have come out for is none other than a Kryptonian villainess who is going by the name of URSA.
Now expect the powers that be to deny deny and deny. As Superman fans can recall the character URSA was in both "Superman: The Movie" and "Superman II" played by British actress Sarah Douglas.
This will lead many to wonder whether or not General Zod will be in the film as URSA, along with Zod, were two thirds of the criminals banished by Jor-El to the Phantom Zone.
Now Zack Synder has gone on record stating that General Zod will not be in the film, stating, “For now, it’s just a rumor.” But directors and screenwriters often make changes before shooting begins.
With production on the film beginning this summer with a late 2012 release date expect decisions to be made shortly regarding the principal cast.

http://www.tmz.com/2011/02/08/lindsay-l ... rney-lapd/Lindsay Lohan -- Up for a Role in New 'Superman'
Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's ... Lindsay Lohan?
Sources close to LiLo tell TMZ ... Lindsay's people have had multiple phone conversations within the last few weeks with the people behind the new "Superman" reboot. We're told Lindsay is up for a role in the flick -- and while it isn't Lois Lane, we hear it would be a "major character."
We're told Lindsay is supposed to meet personally with the "Superman" people soon -- but she might be a little busy with that felony grand theft charge thing.
According to our sources, Lindsay is "dying to show people again how talented she is" and is worried this latest run-in with the law (for which she maintains she's innocent) could ruin her shot at the movie.
Apparently that necklace she's accused of stealing is made out of kryptonite.
Reps for Warner Bros had no comment.

http://www.deadline.com/2011/02/kevin-c ... rman-role/Kevin Costner Up, Up And Away For 'Superman' Role?
EXCLUSIVE: I'm told that there is heightened interest in Kevin Costner for a key role in the Superman reboot that is being directed by Zack Snyder for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures. Henry Cavill was recently set in the Man of Steel role. I'm not exactly sure what role Costner is likely to play, but he has certainly been in good guy mode lately. Beyond his performance in the John Wells-directed The Company Men, Costner surfaced as an unlikely hero in aiding the cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. British Petroleum purchased over 30 centrifuge machines which separate oil from water, technology that was developed with a reported $24 million in funding by the actor over 15 years.
The Superman film is being produced by Chris Nolan, Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers. The new Superman is targeted for release in December 2012.
